Aim
Many materials used on the cricket ground need to be kept dry such as fertiliser, grass seed and cricket loam.
What’s involved
Ensuring materials are stored in a dry structure with a solid floor. Covered bays can be used for large volumes of material such as soil. Additional storage is needed for chemicals such as pesticides to meet current legislation and the operator needs to be certificated.
Timing of use
All year round.
Effects of incorrect procedure
Once cricket loam is wet it is unusable. Fertiliser and grass seed is expensive so all these materials need to be kept secure and dry.
Equipment needed
Appropriate shelving, storage containers and labelling materials.
Practical Tips
Ensure all materials are well labelled and any dangerous chemicals kept in sealed containers. Always keep a pair of protective gloves and goggles nearby.
