Verticutting the Outfield
Verticutting is pruning horizontal growth just above the ground surface using a reel of closely spaced vertically orientated blades.
In addition to traditional mowing, verticutting the outfield can help to increase pace of ball roll, improve sward health, discourage weeds and undesirable grasses and reduce thatch accumulation.
You may be able to fit verticutting or grooming units to your outfield mower depending on the type of mower or hire in equipment to do this.
Note that this is not an essential task but will help with outfield performance and drainage by reducing thatch accumulation and promoting desirable grasses.
