Inspection of Pitch Markings

Aim:

To ensure that the pitch conforms to the rules set out by the FA.

Method:

Manual, check for:

• Incomplete pitch markings.
• Low visibility of pitch markings.
• Are lines straight?

Timing:

Immediately prior to match.

Effects of Incorrect Procedure:

• Delay to start of match to allow remedial action.
• Match postponed by officials.
• Controversial decision.
• Reported to league.

Equipment:

• Line marker.
• Bucket, whitener & paint brush.

Practical Tips:

Should be completed as part of the pre-match inspection.
