Fielding restriction circles

These are normally marked at a distance of 30 yards from the middle stump at each end (check your competition playing conditions/regulations) with soft plastic or rubberised white discs so as not to cause injury to diving fielders.  They are normally placed 10-15 m apart.

Tips for fielding circle markers:

  • When measuring out the locations of the discs – do this before putting your stumps in but without the fence/rope posts around the square.
  • Put a spike or long screwdriver through the loop at the start of the tape measure and into the middle stump hole and work from one side of the square in line with the back (bowling) crease, to the opposite side.
  • Pace evenly from as you go around.
  • Do this at both ends and then line up the circles either side of the pitch in between.
  • Use a small dash of paint on the ground under each disc location so that the discs can be replaced in the right place when players move them, or they get dragged about by covers coming on and off.  If you have multiple pitches in play – use different coloured paint or different symbols (e.g., crosses and dots) to distinguish disc locations for different pitches.
