Aim
The ECB and the Grounds Management Association (GMA) have a process to assess the cricket ground. This can be done by your County Pitch Advisor; this network can be contacted through your local County Cricket board, the process is called Performance Quality Standards Assessment (PQS).
What’s involved
The assessment looks at many criteria such as:
Soil profile, surface gradients and levels, percentage of weeds and many more aspects.
Timing of use
March to December.
Effects of incorrect procedure
This assessment gives you bench mark standards and identifies areas to work on.
Equipment needed
Soil profiler, straight edge, tapes, spirit levels and quadrats.
Practical Tips
An assessment should be seen as a positive which will help target resources.
