Method:

  • What is the resistance when trying to push a fork or peg into the surface?
  • Surface cracking.

Timing:

Anytime.

Effects of Incorrect Procedure:

  • Unsafe surface when connected to poor surface levels.
  • Poor standard pitch/s.
  • Loss of play due to poor surface conditions.
  • Loss of revenue.
  • Poor use of resources.

Equipment:

  • Assessors boot/shoe.
  • Garden fork.
  • Peg.
  • Visual.

Practical Tips:

  • Does the surface feel hard under foot?
  • Does a fork dropped from shoulder height stick in or bounce off of the surface?
  • Is there resistance when trying to push a peg in?
