What is it?
The reproductive structure of the grass plant containing young plant (embryo), food and protective coating. It is developed from the ovule after fertilisation.
How it’s used
Used to establish new grass plant on the playing surface.
Timing of use
April and September are the best months for sowing, but it can be sown throughout the growing season.
Effects of incorrect procedure
No germination, seed rotting and no plant roots to hold the surfaces together. This is normally the result of poor seed bed preparation.
Equipment needed
Hand rakes, pedestrian and tractor mounted seeders.
Practical Tips
Perennial Rye Grass is the most predominant grass used in cricket.
