Aim:

To ensure that any existing drains are working.

Method:

Visual inspection of manholes & outfalls.

Timing:

  • Every six months.
  • Check pre & during season.

Effects of Incorrect Procedure:

  • Reduced surface water infiltration.
  • Saturated playing surface.
  • Reduced durability.
  • Reduced playability.

Equipment:

  • Manhole keys.
  • Torch.
  • Drainage rods.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Practical Tips:

  • Near drains it is advisable to wear PPE to protect from infections such as Weil’s Disease.
  • If there is a doubt whether the drains are running or not, contact a specialist.
  • The checks are best completed after sustained periods of rainfall.
