Aim:

Used in many different forms in Winter Games.

  1. In Pitch preparation to lift grasses and remove surface dead grass and rubbish.
  2. In renovation to remove organic material from the surface of the soil down to 30 40 mm.

Method:

Scarification is down in many forms on the sport ground. Pitches are raked manually or with powered equipment.

Timing:

As a guide, in the growing season the grass plant is scarified to clean out dead material such as old leaves etc.

Practical Tips:

If the unit to be used does not possess a collecting box it is important to ensure that all resulting arisings are removed from the pitch, for example by using a leaf sweeper.
