Aim:
Used in many different forms in Winter Games.
- In Pitch preparation to lift grasses and remove surface dead grass and rubbish.
- In renovation to remove organic material from the surface of the soil down to 30 40 mm.
Method:
Scarification is down in many forms on the sport ground. Pitches are raked manually or with powered equipment.
Timing:
As a guide, in the growing season the grass plant is scarified to clean out dead material such as old leaves etc.
Practical Tips:
If the unit to be used does not possess a collecting box it is important to ensure that all resulting arisings are removed from the pitch, for example by using a leaf sweeper.
