Aim: 

  • Improve grass coverage.
  • Introduce grass species with improved growth properties.

Method:

Drill seed into pitch surface using a mechanized seeder.

Timing:

End of season.

Effects of Incorrect Procedure:

  • Poor sward density.
  • Reduced Playability.
  • Increased weed infestation.
  • Poor surface levels due to excessive wear.

Equipment:

  • Pedestrian or tractor mounted seeder.
  • For small areas, a hand fork (or proprietary tool) can be used.

Practical Tips:

  • Use of a mechanized seeder is a specialist task and should only be carried out by trained personnel.
  • If seeding a small area, rake in fresh rootzone over the seed to ensure good seed/soil contact.
  • Irrigate if possible.
